THE CLASSIC CAR SALE AT STONELEIGH PARK 28th SEPTEMBER SALE 2024

146 CCA The Classic Car Sale at Stoneleigh Park 2024 classiccarauctions.co.uk LOT 835 Estimate: £10,000 - £12,000 1923 MORRIS COWLEY SPORTS TWO-SEATER 11.9HP Only 107 of these boat-tailed Cowley ‘Sports’ models were built and were almost certainly the forerunner of the first MGs. Very few are known to survive. • The Morris Garages moved to buildings in Alfred Lane, Oxford in March 1921. An autonomous section of the main Morris company, the garage specialised in the servicing and maintenance of Morris and other makes and when asked, also provided special bodies on the standard Morris Cowley chassis • In 1923, Morris Motors commissioned the building of a lightweight, more sporting model of the Morris Cowley with two seats, aluminium bodywork and a pointed tail • They were to be known as the Cowley Sports and we understand that 107 were built in total. They bear a striking resemblance to the first MG (Morris Garages), the 14/28, which appeared the following year • This example has been in current ownership since 1971, underwent a restoration in the early 1970s and has been largely unused since • According to our vendor the car has ‘recently been fired up by specialists’ and is running and driving • A potential entry into Vintage Car Club and Bullnose Morris events and given its rarity, we imagine would be welcome anywhere Lot Details Reg: UP 2367 Chassis no.: D129170 Odometer: TBA MOT expiry: Exempt Consignor: Richard Greenhalgh Telephone No: 07948 152921 Vendor Condition Report: Overall: 80 / 135 «««¶¶ More Details Lot 835 Bid On Lot 835
